چکیده

If access to the ventricular chambers of the heart could be obtained without loss of blood or interruption of the normal functions of the heart, certain congenital and acquired lesions of the interior of the heart might be partially or completely corrected with minimal risk. The present investigation was stimulated by the needs of an infant in severe cardiac failure due to the presence of a ventricular septal defect. The correction of defects of the atrial septum with the use of an open rubber extension of the auricular appendage has recently been reported by Gross and his co-workers.8 The widespread acceptance by the surgeon of the operation for mitral valvulotomy has been largely due to the fact that there is loss of only a small amount of blood when the mitral valve is approached through the auricular appendage. It occurred to us that perhaps a closed rubber appendage, or what we would prefer to call a diverticulum, could be temporarily attached to the ventricles to permit a similar bloodless approach to the structures within these chambers. We do not have a definite answer to all the problems which were encountered in the development of this technique; but certain deductions can, however, be made from an experience with 26 dogs, when a diverticulum was sewed onto either the right or left ventricle and where an incision was made through the ventricular wall into the chamber. In 13 of these animals a ventricular septal defect had been made and the diverticulum was used as a method of approach to the ventricular chambers for repair of the defect. The results of these experiments will be reported at a later date.'

Rectal diverticulum in a terrier dog: A case report

Rectal diverticulum is a rare condition in dogs characterized by formation of a pouch or sac due to hernial protrusion of the mucous membranes through a defect in the muscular coat of the rectum. A 12-year-old male terrier dog was admitted with a history of a left perineal swelling, dyschezia and tenesmus during the last five months. Digital rectal examination identified a weakness in the left ...

A Case of Isolated Congenital Left Ventricular Diverticulum with Acute Myocarditis

Isolated congenital left ventricular diverticulum is a rare congenital heart malformation with an incidence ranging from 0.05% to 0.4%[1]. This lesion was defined by a protrusion of the threelayer left ventricular free walls, and was first described in 1838[1]. Multiple clinical phenotypes were presented in literature, such as chest pain, arrhythmia, systemic embolisation, valve regurgitation, ...

A Newborn Infant with a Pulsatile Substernal Structure in a Midline Defect; Cantrell's Syndrome

The present report describes a male newborn with a pulsatile structure beneath the sternum. Echocardiography showed common atrium, a single ventricle, mitral atresia, double outlet right ventricle, subpulmonary stenosis, small pulmonary artery branches, and a thin walled ventricular diverticulum suggestive of Cantrell's syndrome. The diverticulum was resected to prevent life threatening events ...

The Effect of Endurance and High-Intensity Interval Training on the Content MSTN and Follistatin Proteins in the Left Ventricular Tissue of The Heart of Type 1 and 2 Diabetic Rats

Background: Diabetes is an important factor in heart defects that can lead to atrophy of heart cells. Exercise can prevent the complications of diabetes by regulating cellular factors. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of endurance and high-intensity interval training on the content MSTN and Follistatin proteins in the left ventricular tissue of the heart of typ...

THE EFFECT OF ENDURANCE TRAINING ON THE CONTENT MYOSTATIN AND SMAD2/3 PROTEINS IN THE LEFT VENTRICULAR TISSUE OF THE HEART MUSCLE OF TYPE 1 DIABETIC RATS

Background: The myostatin/SMAD pathway is one of the most important regulatory pathways in heart muscle cells atrophy. Diabetes can disorder this pathway. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of six weeks of endurance training on the content myostatin and SMAD2/3 proteins in the left ventricular tissue of the heart muscle of type 1 diabetic rats. Methods: In this ...
